I'm done with Christmas... fuck it.  Yes I am difficult to shop for because I either buy what I want, when I want it, or I have very exacting product requirements, after doing research, that others in my family are either unwilling or unable to do properly.

So as December approached I got the usual "What do you want?" type questions.  So I sat down, planned out what I wanted, and who would get what so that the costs were fairly distributed, and sent out the list.  Out of the 10 or so items on the list I was "forced" to order all but 3 due to people "already gotten me a gift" and of the remaining 3... that person fucked up the order and the items were shipped to their house and I won't be getting them until after the first (one of them I REALLY wanted to use/setup before going back to work).

So to save agravation for the future I am just going to order the items I want and just ask people for a dollar amount similar to the gift cost and just call it even.  The orders will delivered on time and to the correct location.

I can't wait for the tech support calls from family after the holidays are done because they can't figure it out themselves....

Guitar Hero.. or Guitar Zero?

I've taken my first stab into the world of Guitar Hero, and I gotta say I wish I had started playing this before.  Yeah my fingers are killing me, and yeah I started on easy and it was kinda difficult... but many late hours and bloody nubs on fingers I am now getting the hang of it and starting to do pretty well on medium (almost beat it.. got Iron Maiden and Lou left).  Doing pretty well online... about 40-50% win rate, when the Tonka Toy Networking cooperates.  Spyder has no interest... she tried easy Slow Ride and failed about 15 times so far, so I think she is done... there goes co-op.  Anywho, if you want to add me to your list, check the upper right box for my code, and to track my progress check out my profile.

Nintendo... Networking with Tonka Toys
Written by Boots

I've always had some issue with Nintendo and their handling of wifi networking.  It has always been shitty at best.  The latest example was attempting to get the latest Wii patch.  I could perform the test with no problem, but could not get the patch.  It was also very difficult for it to cast my vote.. 20+ attempts for it to register...  For every other wireless device (laptop, Stiletto, bridge) my WRK54G has been rock solid... but not with the Wii and DS-lites.  So I had to connect to a neighbor's wireless network and grabbed the patch.

After enough of that shit I got the Wii LAN adapter.  I know my wireless bridge is rock solid.  Getting the LAN adapter to work was a chore in itself....  for some reason the only way for me to get stability on it was to put a 6' USB extension cable between the Wii and LAN adapter.  Nice work assholes!

After watching the hub, adapter, and DHCP logs it looks like for every request (download the patch, get the list of VC titles for this page, get the latest news) the Wii will create the IP stack, collect the data it wants, then tear down the stack.. to the point the Wii no longer has link with the hub.  It also looks like the Wii can't handle retries as it seems to bail at the first sign of trouble.

Oh well, the shit is working now ao I am happy.

PS.  Fuck Lasker!
